How the comparison works
Traditional astrology compares two signs in three ways, and so does this tool.
- Element (Fire, Earth, Air, Water): the basic temperament of a sign.
- Modality (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable): whether a sign tends to start things, sustain them or adapt.
- The angle between the signs: signs are 30 degrees wide, so two signs sit 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150 or 180 degrees apart. Astrologers call these the conjunction, the semi-sextile, the sextile, the square, the trine, the quincunx and the opposition.
Why there is no percentage
Many sites give a score. This one does not, on purpose. A number implies a verdict, and no astrological tradition says that two people are doomed or destined on the strength of their Sun signs alone. What the texts do offer are themes: what tends to come easily, and what may need patience. That is what you get here.
What Sun signs leave out

Frequently asked questions
↳ Can two signs that are "not compatible" have a good relationship?
Yes. Astrology describes tendencies, and people are far more than their Sun signs. Many long partnerships sit on squares and oppositions, which traditionally create friction and also movement.
↳ Does this follow the Vedic system?
No. This uses the Western, tropical signs. Vedic matching, called Kundali Milan, works differently, using the Moon sign and nakshatra. You can explore it on the Vedic site.
