There are thirteen full moons in 2026, because 31 May is a Blue Moon. By UTC they fall on 3 January, 1 February, 3 March, 2 April (still 1 April in New York), 1 May, 31 May, 29 June, 29 July, 28 August, 26 September, 26 October, 24 November and 24 December. New moons fall on 18 January, 17 February, 19 March, 17 April, 16 May, 15 June, 14 July, 12 August, 11 September, 10 October, 9 November and 9 December. The table below gives every one with its traditional name, times in six cities and the Moon’s sign.

The Moon takes about 29.5 days to go from one full moon to the next, which is why the dates slide earlier through the calendar and sometimes squeeze two full moons into a single month.

Dates can differ by time zone. A moon that is full on one evening in New York may already fall on the next calendar day in London, New Delhi or Sydney, so the table shows each city separately. If you live elsewhere, take the UTC time and convert it to your own clock. The last column gives the tropical zodiac sign the Moon occupies at that moment, with degree and minute.

How the traditional names work

The names in the table follow the North American convention: each full moon takes the name of the month it falls in, judged by New York time. They come from farmers’ almanacs and are explained in our guide to the full moon names. New moons have no traditional names in this system, so the table says so. Other cultures name their moons differently, and Indian calendars follow a separate lunar month, so a name here is a convention and not a universal label.

Harvest Moon and Hunter’s Moon in 2026

The Harvest Moon is the full moon that falls closest to the September equinox, and the Hunter’s Moon is the one that follows it. In 2026 the Harvest Moon is the full moon of 26 September, which is closest to the equinox on 23 September (the Sun enters Libra at 12:05 am UTC that day). The Hunter’s Moon follows on 26 October, at 4:11 am UTC, or 12:11 am in New York. The rule means the Harvest Moon is not always the September full moon: in some years it falls in early October.

Blue Moon in 2026

In its calendar sense, a Blue Moon is the second full moon within one calendar month. Whether a particular moon counts depends on the time zone used, because a full moon close to midnight can land in different months for different readers. In 2026 the Flower Moon of 1 May and the full moon of 31 May fall in the same month in UTC, New York, London, New Delhi and Sydney time, so 31 May is a Blue Moon in all of them. In New York the two are 1 May at 1:23 pm and 31 May at 4:45 am. The 31 May full moon is a Blue Moon only in the calendar-month sense, and it will look like any other full moon.

Eclipses and the lunar calendar

Eclipses happen only at a new moon (solar) or a full moon (lunar), and only when the Moon is near the line where its orbit crosses the Sun’s apparent path. In 2026 there are four eclipses: an annular solar eclipse at the new moon of 17 February, a total lunar eclipse at the full moon of 3 March, a total solar eclipse at the new moon of 12 August and a partial lunar eclipse at the full moon of 28 August. For the type, time, degree and visibility of each, see the eclipses in 2026 page. The neighbouring year is in the 2027 calendar.

What the Moon’s sign means in the tradition

The Moon takes about two and a half days to cross each sign, so every full moon and new moon lands in one of the twelve. Astrologers read a full moon as a culmination and a new moon as a fresh start, coloured by the sign involved: a full moon in a water sign is read as emotional, one in an air sign as a time for conversation, and so on. This is an interpretive tradition, which many people use as a prompt for reflection. There is no scientific evidence that the phase or sign of the Moon changes events in people’s lives, and nothing here is a prediction. Plenty of readers simply enjoy using each new moon to set one small intention and each full moon to review it.

To see where the Moon stood at your own birth, try the Sun Moon Rising calculator or read about your Moon sign. The signs in the table use the tropical zodiac that this site uses throughout; sidereal (Vedic) charts place the Moon in a different sign, so do not mix the two systems.

Frequently asked questions

↳ When is the next full moon in 2026?

Use the table above and pick the first full moon after today's date, remembering that the time shown for your city may fall on a different calendar day from UTC. The last full moon of 2026 is the Cold Moon on 24 December (23 December in New York).

↳ Is there a Blue Moon in 2026?

Yes. The Flower Moon of 1 May and the full moon of 31 May both fall in May in UTC, New York, London, New Delhi and Sydney time, so the second one counts as a Blue Moon in the calendar sense. It has nothing to do with the colour of the Moon.

↳ When is the Harvest Moon in 2026?

The Harvest Moon is the full moon of 26 September 2026, at 4:49 pm UTC, which is 12:49 pm in New York. It is the full moon closest to the September equinox, and the Hunter's Moon follows on 26 October.

↳ Which full moons are eclipses in 2026?

The total lunar eclipse around the 3 March full moon and the partial lunar eclipse around the 28 August full moon. There are also solar eclipses at the new moons of 17 February and 12 August.

↳ Why do some full moons fall on different dates in different countries?

The full moon is a single instant, but the calendar date depends on the local time zone. A moment late in the evening in New York is already the next day in Sydney, so the same full moon can carry two dates.

For retrograde dates alongside the moons, see the Mercury retrograde 2026 guide.
